The striking new sanctuary for the congregation of St. Nektarios Church, in Charlotte, NC, was constructed by S. C. Hondros & Associates, Inc. and the copper work was done by Murr & Laney, Inc. The building's exterior consists of cast stone and an EIFS facade. The roof is constructed of 16 and 20 oz. copper. There is a main center dome, three half domes, six barrel vaulted roofs and eight 5/12 pitched roofs all connected with a series of low slope roofs. Traditional copper standing seam and flat lock seams were used in the design. The 20-oz. copper gutter is a custom-designed 8-1/2" half round for which a special roller was built in the Murr & Laney, Inc. shop. One-inch by 1/8 inch copper bar hangers were used to support the gutter.
This project was also recognized with the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) 2008 Gold Circle - Honorable Mention award.
